Bike Chain Skipping Hard:
Let me save you some time and money. If you have just replaced your chain and not your chainrings, and your chain skips under load/pressure (like pedaling up a hill), replace your chainrings or take your bike to your local bike shop. The chainrings are worn and are causing the chain to jump near your cassette.
Lesson Learned:
After popping another spoke in my rear wheel and spending some time looking at my mountain bike (Performance Bikes Access XCL9r), I choose to add the spokes back myself, shorten my bike stem from 120mm to 60mm, and replace my 5 year old chain. Then on my test ride after replacing my chain, the chain skipped hard while pedaling up a hill. At that moment… I should have thought to replace my chainrings because they to were 5 years old. I did not… and spent money replacing the following parts.
Below are the parts that I replaced, listed in order of replacement:
- ($7.99) – Replaced two spokes
- ($11.99) – Bike Stem 25.4 × 60mm CANSUCC Mountain Bike Stem Bicycle Handlebar Stem Suitable
- ($11.98) – KMC X9.93 Bicycle Chain 9-Speed, 1/2 x 11/128-Inch, 116L
