What is BUILDR?

BUILDR is a spreadsheet-based Wahoo Fitness cycling workout editor. The spreadsheet dynamically creates the .plan file code so you can load your custom workouts onto your Wahoo Cycling Computer (Elemnt, Roam or Bolt) via your desktop computer or Android phone.

BUILDR is split into two worksheets. The first worksheet being the workout editor and the second worksheet containing the workout code you generated on the first worksheet. This code is then copied over to the provided Notepad file, which has been defaulted to the UNIX (LF) line break type. This line break type is needed so your Wahoo computer can read the file correctly. UNIX is used in systems like Linux, macOS X and Android. Your Wahoo computer has an Android backbone. Microsoft Notepad will default to Windows (CRLF). CRLF is not supported by Wahoo computers.

Why BUILDR?

BUILDR was created out of the need to provide a low cost, subscription less and non sign-up option to create cycling workouts for Wahoo computers. Like myself, this is an option for the money minded cyclists who want to create their own custom workouts without shelling out hundreds of dollars for a social platform. It is extremely user friendly and requires zero technical knowledge since it was created using Excel.

How it works:

The BUILDR models were built on the Excel desktop app (Macro Free) and have been thoroughly tested using Windows operating system. MacOS users see directions below on how to use the Android File Transfer by Google. Also, we are working to convert these models to Google Sheets and will post an update here once they go live.

Included with all paid models: Workout information fields (Name, Description & Schedule), Workout Profile Chart and at least two cycling metrics.

Quick Directions:

  1. Create custom workout using BUILDR.
  2. Copy code and paste into Notepad file (or similar text application).
  3. Move Notepad file to Wahoo Plan folder and change file type from .txt to .plan.
  4. Press sync on Wahoo computer and enjoy your workout!

Models:

PRO BUILDR

The PRO model has the most features. The main difference compared to the AMATEUR model is the ability to create the workout based on your metric zones (Power/Heart Rate/FTP/Cadence). Each of these metrics have 7 zones that you can edit the zone name and HI/LO values for your workout. These zone ranges are displayed on your Wahoo computer on screen and with the LEDs. It also has 5 intervals for a total of 100 individual customizable efforts (20 efforts per interval). More than you ever will need. There is one additional single metric options if you want to create a quick workout without worrying about your zones.

AMATEUR BUILDR

The AMATEUR model is a great choice if you don’t want to create your workouts based on zones. You are able to select two metrics to be displayed and only a single value for each. It has 3 intervals for a total of 60 individual customizable efforts (20 efforts per interval). Combine the efforts with a few interval cycles (repeats) and you will find you don’t need any more.

CAT 6 BUILDR

The CAT 6 model is the FREE version you can download to test if BUILDR will work for you. It includes two intervals (no efforts), Power/Heart Rate/Cadence metrics to select from, and the workout profile chart.
