Run Commute 6/19

Morning Commute:

I started my Tuesday by running again to work. With the epic 40 mile Appalachian Trail run coming up in November, I plan to run commute at least once per week, but will try to run commute up to two times if I can manage it. Anyways.. I planned to run 6 miles at an easy pace, keeping my heart rate around 145-150. I’m looking to make a my runs more comfortable and also dabble in the 80/20 training plan. My pace in both the morning and afternoon hovered around 10 minutes a mile, which is quite slow but it felt comfortable. It was nice to just enjoy the run and not worry about pushing my pace. I was enjoying it until 4 miles into it and then my stomach started to bubble… Instead of pushing through it I decided to stop and walk the rest of the way.

Afternoon Commute:

The afternoon commute was a hot one. I ended up doing two laps around the park lake to increase mileage, but suffered on the way back with the heat. From the lake I headed towards Kroger, knowing I could fill up my bottle with their restroom water fountain. From there I planned my next water stop at a park and took off running that way. I kept my pace slow because of the heat and to keep my heart rate around 140-150. It was tough to finish the 9 miles with the heat and the soreness in my left foot. I’ll be watching the soreness extra closely and will probably take it easy the next two weeks to see if I can get it to go away. Also in the next couples of weeks I am going to try a 80/20 running plan. Stay tuned.
