Run Commuting Again, 7.9 Miles R-T

Run Commuting:

As being one that always dismissed running after my middle school track years, I have now restored the joy of running in my heart. By looking at lowering my times and increasing my distances as a challenge, I have restored the runner’s high. After a few weeks away from work and running to work, I decided to start my week off right and run to work on Monday (5/14).

Morning run commute, 3.1 miles:

The morning commute was my normal route, slightly downhill half the way, with a mile-like gradually climb at the end. It was refreshing to run again and especially with music this time. Normally, most of my runs are without music, as I do not like to hold my phone while running. Since I had my backpack with me, I’m able to store it comfortably in one of the pockets.

After not running for awhile, this run commute actually felt better than I expected and I knew I wouldn’t be too sore in the afternoon. By the end of the day I decided to add a little more distance and change the route up.

Distance: 3.13 miles Moving Time: 24:24 Pace: 7:48

Afternoon run commute, 4.8 miles:

The afternoon run commute was hot and humid. The first mile was easy, all down hill. Then I hit a short steep climb to the back of a shopping center and crossed the street to a small little nature preserve with a trail system, where I used one of the trails to connect to the next street over. It was my first time in the nature preserve, with vague memory of the trail map I was able to get myself out of the preserve and up on the street I was looking for. I did have to cross a small creek where I tip toed across, keeping my feet dry. However, on the other side of the creek the trail somewhat disappeared up the bank, with little memory of the trail system, I decided to climb the 3-4ft drop to get myself out. From there it was a slow jog all the way home.

Distance: 4.82 miles Moving Time: 41:57 Pace: 8:42
