The race wasn’t just all business, supporters and followers of Phil raised over $20,000 for Chefs Cycle For No Kid Hungry.
The Story Behind the Race:
Phil Gaimon made headlines back in 2017 with the release of his new book Draft Animals: Living the Pro Cycling Dream (Once in a While). Within the book, Gaimon brought up past rumors of Fabian Cancellara motor doping, and a few reviewers of the book were quick to bring those comments to light.
“When you watch the footage, his accelerations don’t look natural at all, like he’s having trouble staying on the top of the pedals… That fucker probably did have a motor.”
Those statements became the talking point of his new book and Fabian Cancellara even took notice, Fabian’s legal team even asked Phil’s publisher to remove the book from sale and issue an apology from Phil. Phil responded with a statement of his own on his website here; just saying people were making a big deal out of it and to relax.
Fabian Strikes Back:
After Fabian wasted money hiring a legal team to craft a letter, he figured he could recoup some money by challenging Phil to participate in one of his Chasing Cancellara Races. The race involves participants to start in front of Fabian and attempt to stay in front until the end of the race. Phil thinking he was just joking blew it off.
Fabian Strikes Back Again (1/26/2018):
On 1/26/2018, Fabian stated it again on Cyclingnews.com, most likely plugging his race trying to earn a few more dollars, but then he contacted Phil on Twitter stating that he doesn’t know him… :0 Anyways, Phil is up for the challenge, hopefully he will negotiate free registration and accommodations. Being retired and all he needs to be careful with his nest egg.
Fabian Strikes Back Again and Again (2/2/2018):
Fabian posted another Instagram post on 2/2/2018, pondering which course he should invite Phil to.

Based on weight, KOMs and YouTube followers, I think Phil will have the upper hand.

I think Phil definitely picked the right race I would only worry how many people will be there to interfere with either one of them. Phil with the advantage.
He Won! haha. I hope Fabian races in the Hill Climb World Championship.
