First Time Run Commuting | 6.4 Round-trip Commute

Run Commuting:

On Tuesday (2/13), I finally laced up my sneakers and ran to work. I have been thinking about running to work for a while. After bike commuting for over 150 days, mostly the same distance every workday, I have become a little bored with the routine. I find myself not really enjoying it as much as I did in the beginning, unless I add on a new portion or attempt to get a KOM on a new segment. However, that boredom finally broke me down and pushed me to run to work.

The route that I planned for the run, and that I eventually took, is generally the same as my bike commute. The run route is along the roads that have sidewalks and less elevation change, and is close to 3.2 miles long. Being only 3.2 miles, I knew that if I walked/jogged I could be at work in 40 minutes or less.

I will add.. not really running since 2014 held me back. The fear of not being able to run back home at the end of the day crept into my mind. I wasn’t sure if my body could make it back. Come to find out, I did make it back, but was extremely sore. The soreness lasted about a week, in which I bike commuted the rest of the week.

With all that aside, it was extremely exhilarating running to work. I received that high that I felt during the first two weeks of bike commuting. That same high will probably dissipate like before, but it was nice to feel it again. It has kept me thinking since then about the next thing I should try.
