Weekend Review 6/1

Quick weekend recap to highlight a few of the cycling/running related events:

Friday:

The Boss Lady picked me up from work because a storm was supposed to blow in. Only rain blew in, but not the lightning they called for so I could have bike commuted home. We took advantage of the extra time and had tex-mex on the way home. Side note we picked up 15:17 To Paris from one of the local redbox’s and watched it that night. I’ll be honest and say it was just an okay movie. If it wasn’t a true story and played by the real heroes, I wouldn’t recommend the movie. It was a “B” movie at best.

Saturday:

I spent most of Saturday morning, after waking up around 10am, cleaning the apartment and working the DIY LifeStraw Bottle post. During that time I also ordered a new sewing machine, the Singer Heavy Duty 4432. My previous hand-me-down machine kept jamming and breaking needles. So, I hope this will be able to handle my frame bags and the other gear I plan to make, like the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt Running Sack.

After making the post and the quick video to go along with it, I headed outside to take advantage of the clear skies and went for a 7 mile run down to a local gravel trail. I kept it at a fairly easy pace, sort of an active recovery run. My body was tired from the week before since I slept through my alarms this morning.

Sunday (Rest Day):

After sleeping in again to 9:30ish, I took the opportunity of another lazy morning to work on my road bike (daily commuter). As you can see in the picture my regularly schedule maintenance has not been regular. On top of the dirty chain, my bottom bracket has been creaking under load. So I re-greased the bottom bracket and prayed that it worked. Monday came and the bike is still creaking 😞 My mountain bike might become my daily commuter if I can’t figure it out.

don’t judge me!
sparkling clean!

During Sunday afternoon I drew up plans and created a mock version of my Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt Trail Running Sack. It is designed to hold the Wahoo Bolt securely on top of my trail running backpack. I’ve ran with the Bolt before with it placed inside one of my pockets but it didn’t record correctly. With the upcoming 40 mile trail run in November, I would like to record the entire run without being concerned about battery life. I’ll post a video and pictures of the sack when it’s finished (coming in the next two weeks).

After church we went to Walmart and picked up Gold Bond Friction Defense stick and  raw beet powder and more Vega plant based protein. Made a smoothie when we got back and then got ready Monday!
