My Spexcel Cycling Haul and Review

Spexcel’s cycling jerseys and bib shorts are arguably the best cycling apparel being sold direct to consumers online. I first found Spexcel cycling on AliExpress about 3 years ago in 2016. Before that I tested my luck with replicas of team kits and other poor quality jerseys and bib shorts. I was never content with the quality of them and was always looking for better designs and fabric construction. Then I came across Spexcel cycling and it checked all those boxes for what I was looking for when ordering direct from China.

My Other Spexcel Cycling Posts:

Over the last three years I have acquired a number of Spexcel jerseys and bib shorts. I have been really happy with them since my first purchase in 2016. Below I’ll try to provide some helpful information and details so you can decide if Spexcel is the right choice for you and worth the two week or so wait.

Price

You can’t beat the price and design combination with Spexcel. If you were to buy a similar style in the US, you would spend at least $60 for just a jersey. That jersey would be loose fitting and be made of some cheap thick fabric that is dyed bright yellow. And, I know you would regret your purchase every time you zipped it up before your rides, but you justify you poor decision because it was cheaper than the $100 version and your wife would have been upset that you spent so much on your hobby. With Spexcel you can get an awesome looking form fitting jersey for $25 and $30 bib shorts that you can wear all day. You’ll be much happier and your wife won’t complain as much.

Spexcel Jerseys: $25
Spexcel Bibs: $20 – $35
Vests and Jackets: $20 – $40

Construction

The construction of both the jerseys and bibs are excellent. It doesn’t seem to me that these garments are factory seconds at all. The hems, seams and zippers all are finished with the quality you expect when purchasing apparel.

Fabric:

The jersey fabric is nice and light and forms well when worn fully zipped up. They are super breathable and comfortable to wear in all seasons. The sleeves are nice lengths and are not cut short. They are about 11 inches from the top of the shoulder seam down to the arm hem.

The bib shorts fabric is of adequate thickness that compresses tightly against your thighs in all the right places. They do maintain their thickness and elasticity through multiple wash and dry cycles. The shorts did shrink a little in the dryer, but that hasn’t stopped me from machine drying them. I would compare these bibs to the $120 shorts you see in Performance Bikes or your local bike store.

The chamois pad is made by Sokind Garments Co., which makes cycling pads for hundreds of different cycling companies. I don’t know if the pad contains a gel layer, but it is thick and comfortable to wear all day long. The pad is about 12mm or .47 inches thick near the seat bone section and is about 6mm thick in the pubic bone area. I don’t have any complaints with the pads at all.

Sizing

My Measurements: Chest 42 inches, Waist 34 inches, Height 6’4″, Weight 195 lbs

For the jerseys I ordered 2XL’s. The jerseys fit well and are snug around my frame. They are not too tight and offer some give when the back pockets are filled with gear. As a reference my chest is 42 inches or 106.6 cm around at its widest point.

For the bib shorts I ordered XL’s. They are snug but not tight to where they are smashing your balls. I could probably wear 2XL’s and be fine, but XL works for me. I do find it hard to pull down the front in the XL’s to use the restroom. Sometimes I have to stop and drop one of the bib straps to relieve myself. I think that has something to do with my height and might not affect other individuals who are a little shorter. As a reference my waist measures 34 inches or 86 cm around and I weigh roughly 195 lbs or 87 kg.

My Gear

Starting from the top left I’ll link to the exact item that I own on Spexcel’s AliExpress store. I will add the two jackets run small and I should have ordered 2XL. Then the smaller sized jersey and bib shorts are from my first order in 2016. They were tight but I managed for awhile until I placed my next order.

Orange Jersey, Size 2XL
Black Jersey, Size XL
Grey Jersey, Size 2XL

  1. Found your article online and decided to give Spexcel a shot. Incredible quality for the price. Don’t think I will ever buy jerseys or bibs from my LBS ever again. So far I’ve bought 2 jerseys, bib pants and bib shorts and am extremely happy with each piece. I’m truly thankful for reading your blog.
